- Whats the difference between the Power Module and the Sun Power?
- The Power Module consists of one active cooling fan per two T5 lamps, more electronic ballasts and a matt aluminium chassis with curve sides. In comparison, the Sun Power uses less cooling fans and electronic ballasts with the light fixtures slightly further apart.
Both units emits the same light intensity when compared with a 6x54w Power Module with a 6x54w Sun Power.
- How does the active cooling works?
- The active cooling fans on both units work on the same principle. The outside air is drawn into the unit via the cooling fans. The cool air is forced through all ballasts and electronics then is push down and flows through the end of the lamp fixtures along the T5 tubes and exits through the side. With this constant active cooling an optium light output is acheived. This has also proven to susbstain the life of T5 tubes.
- Are the cooling fans noisey? Which voltage should I set on?
- There is a universial adaptor supplied with each unit. On the adaptor, theres two switches. The POLARITY SW should be under the negative sign for Power Module and positive sign for Sun power and a voltage selection from "off" to 12 volts.
I recommend 4.5v for room tempature. In summer you may feel is nessasary to increase the voltage to increase the speed of the cooling fans.
With the recommended votage of 4.5v, noise level is at its minimum. It is not silent as some proclaim but very quiet, a low humming noise. With the increase of voltage, the noise will also increase.
- Which type of T5 tubes should I use?
- This really depends on what type of setup you are going for. Before recommending the varius T5, I must stress the Aquablue Special is the one and only for coral growth. This tube has a blend of 50% white and 50% blue spectrum. The white spectrum is mainly for photosynthesis while the blue spectrum is to bring the colouration or the fluorescent out from the corals.
- ATI have 4 types of T5, the Aquablue Special (white spectrum) as mentioned above, the Blue Plus (bright blue spectrum), Actinic (deep purplish blue spectrum) and the Pro Colour (red spectrum).
With a general set up, a mixture of sps, lps, softies and fish, I would employ all the T5s. If having a, let say, 6 x 54w Sun Power. I will have 3 Aquablue Specials, 1 Blue Plus, 1 Actinic and 1 Pro Colour.
If the tank is dominated by sps corals I will increase my Aquablue Special to 4 tubes and remove Actinic tube. For a stronger growth approach, I will use 4 Aquablue Specials and 2 Blue Plus.
